Pacers acquire Pascal Siakam in trade with Raptors https://www.crossroads-sports.com/2024/01/17/pacers-acquire-pascal-siakam-in-trade-with-raptors/ Wed, 17 Jan 2024 19:55:12 +0000 https://www.crossroads-sports.com/?p=4283

The Pacers have made a trade to add all-star Pascal Siakam and pair him up with fellow all-star Tyrese Haliburton.  The Pacers will send Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks to the Toronto Raptors, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.  The New Orleans Pelicans are the third team in the deal, sending Kira Lewis to the Raptors and a second-round pick to the Pacers, sources told ESPN.

Two of the first-round picks going to the Raptors are for 2024 — Indiana’s own selection and the lesser of a Utah/Houston/Oklahoma City pick — while the third is for 2026 (from Indiana), sources said.

Siakam, who has spent all eight of his NBA seasons with Toronto, is averaging 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season. He is excited about the deal and is expected to be eager to work out a new contract with the franchise this summer, sources told ESPN.

Siakam, 29, can be a free agent in July.

“I’m excited that Pascal is getting a first class opportunity with the Pacers, being paired with Tyrese [Haliburton] and Myles [Turner] and being coached by a great coach in Rick Carlisle,” Siakam’s agent Todd Ramasar told ESPN’s @andscape about trade to Pacers.

Brown, 27, is averaging 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists this season, while Nwora, 25, has scored 5.2 points per game.

BREAKING NEWS: Colts & Jonathan Taylor agree to 3 yr, $42M contract extension https://www.crossroads-sports.com/2023/10/07/breaking-news-colts-jonathan-taylor-agree-to-3-yr-42m-contract-extension/ https://www.crossroads-sports.com/2023/10/07/breaking-news-colts-jonathan-taylor-agree-to-3-yr-42m-contract-extension/#comments Sat, 07 Oct 2023 20:02:42 +0000 https://www.crossroads-sports.com/?p=4220

After a contract dispute that has lasted for months, the Colts and running back Jonathan Taylor have agreed to a new deal.

The Colts and Taylor have agreed on a three-year, $42 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal includes $26.5 million guaranteed.

For Taylor, it’s a good deal at a time when few running backs are getting good deals. NFL teams showed very little interest in giving long-term contracts to running backs this year, but Taylor got the deal he was looking for.

It’s a big risk for the Colts, given that Taylor is coming off an injury and the running back market has been devalued in the NFL, but they believe he can get back to the level he played at in 2021, when he led the NFL in rushing yards.

Taylor will make his 2023 debut on Sunday against the Titans.

Edey returning to Purdue with “Run It Back” post https://www.crossroads-sports.com/2023/05/31/edey-returning-to-purdue-with-run-it-back-post/ Thu, 01 Jun 2023 02:10:37 +0000 https://www.crossroads-sports.com/?p=4143

Zach Edey will be staying at Purdue for another season.

In a tweet sent around 9 p.m. Wednesday, the 2023 Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year said “Run it back” with a looping emoji and a gif video from the 2013 movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”. In the scene the video is taken from, Leonardo DiCaprio says “I’m not fucking leaving!”

This, we can only assume, indicates that the 7’4″ Canadian will be returning to Purdue University for another season of men’s college basketball.  A couple of minutes later, Purdue’s official men’s basketball Twitter account confirmed these suspicions.

“The jersey is back on the rack,” the Tweet read. “One more year with @Zach_Edey.”

Edey’s return to West Lafayette for another season likely makes the Boilermakers early 2024 title contenders as he was crowned the top player in NCAA basketball last season.

Despite being stunned in a disappointing 79-71 loss at the hands of in-state rival Indiana on Saturday night inside Mackey Arena, Purdue clinched at least a share of the 2022-23 Big Ten regular-season championship as Maryland defeated No. 21 Northwestern at home.

Purdue has a 24-5 overall record this season, including a 13-5 mark in the Big Ten. The team has two games left to play, starting with a road matchup with Wisconsin on Thursday, March 2, at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis., before the regular-season finale against Illinois inside Mackey Arena on March 5.

Indiana, Maryland and Northwestern are all tied for second place in the league standings, each with an 11-7 record against Big Ten opponents at this point in the season.

Since their first college basketball season in 1896, the Boilermakers have won a league-best 25 Big Ten championships. The program has made it to the NCAA Tournament 32 times and has reached the Final Four twice.

Purdue was home to more than 30 NBA players, including two No. 1 overall picks in the NBA Draft.

Tony Kanaan, the most popular Indianapolis 500 driver of his era announced at 9 a.m. Eastern Time on February 15 that the 107th Indianapolis 500 will be his final IndyCar race as a driver.  The 48-year-old driver from Brazil who now lives in Indianapolis made the announcement on his social media at 9 a.m. Later today, he will announce his car number and sponsor for his final ride in the Indy 500 in a media conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Kanaan won the 2004 NTT IndyCar Series championship for what was then known as Andretti Green Racing. Always a leading contender at the Indianapolis 500, it took the popular Brazilian 12 tries before he finally won the big race in 2013 for KV Racing Technologies.  Tony Kanaan started fifth and finished in 10th in the 2021 Indianapolis 500 and proved he still had competitiveness.   Team owner Chip Ganassi brought him back for last year’s Indianapolis in a fifth for the team. Kanaan started sixth and finished third, coming very close to scoring his second career Indy 500 win finishing behind race-winning teammate Marcus Ericsson and current Arrow McLaren teammate Pato O’Ward.

McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown hired Kanaan to drive a fourth entry in this year’s Indianapolis 500, which is Kanaan’s only NTT IndyCar Series race. Just 14 days ago at IndyCar’s “Content Day” at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Kanaan spoke of the excitement he felt getting ready for 22nd Indianapolis 500 start.

“It’s a great opportunity that came up off such a great run last year,” Kanaan said. “I’m excited.

The long and drawn-out process of the Colts coaching search has finally come to an end.   The Indianapolis Colts have named former Eagles Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen their new Head Coach.  After several rounds of interviews over the past month, it seems the Colts have found their guy!

The team made the announcement on social media.

ESPN reported Sunday that Indianapolis had targeted Steichen for the job, and now it appears he will get his first crack at being a head coach in the NFL. He started his coaching career in the collegiate ranks at Louisville prior to holding several assistant positions in the pros.

He was named interim offensive coordinator in 2019 when the Chargers fired Ken Whisenhunt and was promoted to take over the position full-time for the 2020 season. He became Philadelphia’s OC in 2021 and has been in that role ever since. The Eagles are coming off a dominant season on both sides of the ball, but it wasn’t enough on Sunday night, as the team lost Super Bowl LVII, 38–35. The team ranked third in the NFL in points and yards under Steichen this past season.

Steichen will be tasked with turning around a Colts franchise that fired Frank Reich after a 3-5-1 start and ultimately finished 4-12-1 under interim coach Jeff Saturday. Saturday, an ESPN analyst and former franchise center in Indianapolis, was hired with no collegiate or professional coaching experience.
